| | By SCENE Daily.com DALLAS - Dale Earnhardt Jr. said he talked with Anheuser-Busch's Tony Ponturo and gave his blessing for Kasey Kahne to replace him as the Budweiser driver.
Kahne was introduced as the driver of the Budweiser-sponsored 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup car Tuesday, and Earnhardt Jr. was introduced Wednesday as the driver of the No. 88 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet sponsored by AMP Energy and National Guard.
"They've got a great opportunity," said Earnhardt Jr., who became Budweiser's driver in 1999 and will finish up his tenure with the company at the end of the 2007 season. "I talked to Tony this morning and expressed my excitement for them with Kasey. I'm great friends with Kasey.
"I'm pretty proud of what they've chosen to do for their future. They were really respectful in all of their comments yesterday."
So how is Earnhardt Jr. going to go from pitching Budweiser to pitching another beverage in Mountain Dew's AMP Energy drink?
"It is going to be a change of pace for me," Earnhardt Jr. said. "But I've been pretty good at adjusting, whether it be finding the fast lane on the race track or whoever we tend to work with in the future." | | Posted September 21, 2007 , 1:21 pm EST | | | | | | | | | | |
