NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne has donated $500,000 to the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte for the construction of a home for families of children who are receiving care at two area hospitals.
The Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte will support families of children who will be hospitalized in Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital and Levine Children's Hospital at Carolinas Medical Center.
"We are thrilled to partner with Kasey Kahne on this important initiative to support critically ill children in the Charlotte area," said Joanne Charnetski, executive director of the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte.
"The Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte relies heavily on the generous support of individuals like Kasey Kahne and his foundation, as well as our dedicated volunteers."
The Charlotte home is scheduled to open in 2009. It will feature about 40,000 square feet of living space, with 20 to 30 bedrooms that will provide 10,000 nights of stay each year.
"I am honored to make a contribution to this great cause," Kahne said in a news release. "Through my own experiences, I have seen firsthand the impact we can all have on children who are in need. I encourage all of my fans, as well as the NASCAR and Charlotte community to join me and get involved in this important project."
