| | By SCENE Daily.com CONCORD, N.C. - David Stremme is pretty blunt when he talks about his Sprint Cup prospects for 2008.
"I got nothing," Stremme said Thursday night at Lowe's Motor Speedway. "I'm beating on doors trying to find something. We've talked to a few people, but it's tough right now."
Stremme, who is 25th in points driving the No. 40 car for Chip Ganassi Racing, will be replaced by Dario Franchitti in that ride next season. Of the three Ganassi drivers, Juan Pablo Montoya is 20th in points and Reed Sorenson is 23rd.
"You can't wait much," Stremme said. "I was let out of my deal real late, and that hurts. It's all part of the business. I feel I belong at this level. We'll just see how things work out."
The 30-year-old Stremme has spent the last two years in Cup after three years in the Busch Series, where he was the 2003 rookie of the year despite running just 16 races.
With most of the Cup rides already filled for next season, Stremme's name has been floated as a candidate for several cars but nothing has materialized. Could he be headed to the Nationwide Series at least temporarily?
"I probably have talked to more Cup teams than I have Busch teams," Stremme said. "I feel I have proven to be at this level."
Stremme is trying to keep his job search in perspective.
"It could be worse," Stremme said. "I could be out digging ditches or doing something else. You can always say, 'This could be better' or 'that could be better' but it could be a lot worse, too. At least I'm able to walk around. I'm healthy. And I feel that I have enough talent to be at this level."
