Team: Roush Racing Carl Edwards made a name for himself on the NEXTEL Cup scene in 2005, winning four races and finishing 35 points behind series champion Tony Stewart. Racing full-time in the Cup and Busch series, Edwards, known for doing backflips off the door of his car,
finished third in the final point standings in both series.
Edwards is headed into the 2007 season with one thing on his mind – winning two championships. He will be driving both the No. 99 Office Depot Ford and the No. 60 Scotts Ford, running in both the Cup and Busch series.
On the Cup side Edwards is once again working with crew chief Bob Osborne - the pair were also teamed up in 2005 during the Chase. With the addition of Osborne and with few changes to the Office Depot team, the team is considered a top contender for the NEXTEL Cup this year.
Edwards began racing Mini-Sprints in 1993, when he was 13 years old. The son of Modified and Midget driver Carl “Mike” Edwards, he won 18 Mini-Sprint races from 1994-96, before moving on to IMCA Modified dirt racing.
Edwards went to the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series in 2000, and earned Pro-Modified rookie of the year honors, as well as track champion at Capital Speedway.
In 2000 Edwards went to the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series and was the Pro-Modified rookie of the year and track champion at Capital Speedway.
He raced in the USAC and Baby Grand series until 2003, when he ran a full Truck schedule for Roush Racing. Although he had one top-10 in seven races the year before for MB2 Motorsports, he finished eighth in points in 2003, claiming three wins, 13 top-fives and 15 top-10s in 25 races. In 2004 he finished fourth in points.
In August of the same year, Edwards began driving the No. 99 Ford for Roush and ended the Cup season with a top-five and five top-10s.
