He completed his rookie season 17th in the final NEXTEL Cup championship point standings, and earned a career-best third place finish at California Speedway over Labor Day weekend.
Bowyer also finished third in the 2006 NASCAR Busch Series championship, with one win, two poles, 12 top-five and 17 top-10 finishes, driving the Richard Childress Racing No. 2 ACDelco Chevrolet.
Bowyer started racing motocross in 1985, and for the next eight years claimed more than 200 wins and a variety of championships. Bowyer has won championships in Motocross, Pony Stock, Dirt Modified, Late Model and the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series. He won six championships in a three-year period, posting 40 wins and 92 top-five finishes. Bowyer also won the Modified title in 2001 at two different tracks.
Two more titles came for Bowyer in 2002 – championships in the Dirt Modified and late Model divisions. He also earned a NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Midwest championship with 12 wins and 32 top-five finishes. Bowyer also finished second in the national point standings.
Bowyer finished fourth in his second Busch Series start at Nashville in 2004, and won his first career NBS pole on April 24 the same year. He made his NASCAR NEXTEL Cup debut on April 23, 2005 at Phoenix International Raceway. | | | | | | |
