| | Primary Sponsor: AAA Manufacturer: Ford Car Owner: Mike Dee Team: Roush Fenway Racing David Ragan has come along way since racing in the Bandolero Series at just 11 years old. Now the son of former Winston Cup driver Ken Ragan will compete for Rookie of the Year in the 2007 NEXTEL Cup Series.
In 1997, Ragan began racing in the Bandolero Series, winning the national championship in just his second year of competition and again in 1999.
Next Ragan bought a Goody’s Dash Series car and teamed up with Dash driver Cam Strader. The two not only got the Dash cars ready to run, but they also worked on late model cars, affording Ragan a lot of hands on experience. He worked for hours preparing the cars that Strader would race to the 2001 series championship. Ragan ran several late model races in 2002 with Strader’s help, and although he was still too young to compete in NASCAR, Ragan tried to run the most comparable equipment possible. Ragan began driving for Mark Martin in the Legends Pro-Division, finishing fourth in series points out of more than 60 drivers.
By the time Ragan turned 18, he was ready to move on to NASCAR, and ran select Craftsman Truck and Busch Series events, as well as a limited ARCA schedule.
In 2005, Ragan was selected co-driver of the No. 6 Roush Racing Ford F-150 with teammate Mark Martin, after taking part in Roush’s “Driver X” competition. Ragan ran 19 races in the Craftsman Truck Series, where he claimed on top five, eight top-10s and one pole. Ragan also raced in select Busch and Cup Series events.
Toward the end of 2006, Ragan was selected by Jack Roush to drive the No. 6 AAA Ford Fusion during the 2007 season.
