| | | | | | JUST A BAD DAY | Kahne blames himself for poor Pheonix performance | |
| | By SceneDaily Staff AVONDALE, AZ -- Kasey Kahne clearly has had better days in his NASCAR career. The Gillett Evernham Motorsports driver finished 40th in Sunday's Checker Auto Parts 500 at Phoenix International Raceway, crashing out after 147 laps.
But that wasn't his only incident of the day, Kahne said.
"I finally crashed," Kahne said on ABC television. "I drove like an idiot all day and finally wrecked. We were slow. We were way off the pace. We sucked. I finally finished it off for us."
Kahne qualified 10th but couldn't maintain that pace in the race, the final appearance of car of tomorrow for the season.
When asked how many different times he made contact in the race, Kahne said, "Plenty."
"I hit plenty of cars, plenty of walls," Kahne said. "Just wasn't a good day for us."
Kahne wouldn't place the blame on his ill-handling No. 9 Dodge.
"Well, our COT wasn't very good, but other people's are," Kahne said. "But ours wasn't very good. That [last wreck] was driver error. Some of the other ones were just racing.
"We've only got one week left, so I'm happy about that."
