| | | | | | THANKS BUT NO THANKS | Petty: Merger with Evernham operation not happening | |
| | By Jim Pedley / Kansas City Star For the time being, Petty Enterprises will go it alone in the increasingly costly of NASCAR racing.
Kyle Petty, driver and co-owner for the legendary racing team, said Tuesday that his father, Richard Petty, has decided not to merge with Gillett-Evernham Motorsports.
Not at this time, at least.
Petty Enterprises and GEM were said to be discussing a merger or partnership that would have allowed Petty to maintain its identity.
In a meeting with reporters at Phoenix International Raceway early in the month, George Gillett said that the decision on the merger would be up to Richard Petty. Kyle said the decision has been made.
