Team: Haas CNC Racing In 2005, the announcement was made that Scott Riggs would drive the No. 10 Dodge Charger for Valvoline Evernham Racing LLC in the NEXTEL Cup Series in 2006. And in 2006, Riggs and the first-year team had a good season. He earned two poles, one top-five finish, eight top-10 finishes and finished 20th place in points.
Riggs began his racing career in AMA Motorcross competition when he was 14 years old. He won the North Carolina State Championship two years in a row, and finished third int eh 1987 National Competition. When he was 17, he started racing in NASCAR’s Mini Stock Division, winning a dozen races in three seasons. Riggs gathered 36 wins in the NASCAR Late Model divisions over the next decade, and joined the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 2000.
Riggs finished fifth in points in the Craftsman series in 2001, with five wins, 14 top-five finishes, 16 top-10 finishes and five pole positions in 24 events.
After progressing to the Busch Series in 2002, Riggs was named Rookie of the Year. He finished 10th in the series standings after winning two events and earning eight top-five and 13 top-10 finishes. In 2003, he finished the season in sixth place, after wins at Nashville Superspeedway and Gateway International Raceway.
Driving the No. 10 Valvoline car, Riggs made his NEXTEL Series debut in 2004, and had one top-five and two top-10 finishes, including a fifth place finish at Dover.
In 2005, he finished in the top-five twice and the top-10 four times, with a second-place finish at Michigan and a fourth-place finish in the Daytona 500. He earned his first career Bud Pole at Martinsville in April. | | | | | | |
