| | By SceneDaily Staff HAMPTON, GA. -- David Stremme says that signing with Rusty Wallace Racing to drive in the Nationwide Series in 2008 has no impact on his hunt for a job in the Nextel Cup Series.
Stremme is parting ways with the No. 40 Chip Ganassi Racing team at the end of the season. He announced Sunday morning that he'll be driving for Wallace in 17 Nationwide Series races next season. Although that team will be a Chevrolet organization, Stremme does not think that will have an impact on any ongoing negotiations.
"The thing I look at is 20 races with RWI helping with them, kind of the same way with Fitz Motorsports earlier this year, they were outside the top 35, we got them in," Stremme said.
As to a Cup ride, he says that he's been discussing various opportunities with his agent.
"I really belong at that level and it's something that, I'm not just going to jump in to any car, it's something that I want to be in the right situation so, again, the teams that we're talking to, if it works out it will be great," Stremme said. "If not, there will be stuff opening up at the beginning of next year but I can focus on helping Steven and Chase and with Rusty and his program. I really think there's a lot of potential there, especially with Chevrolet coming on."
