| | SceneDaily Staff Dave Blaney enters Sunday's Pocono 500 at Pocono Raceway riding high.
In the last five weeks, Blaney's No. 22 Bill Davis Racing team has climbed from 39th to 30th in the Sprint Cup owner points.
Last Sunday at Dover International Speedway, Blaney finished ninth, matching his best outcome of the season.
The top-10 result was also Blaney's second in three weeks and his fourth consecutive finish of 18th or better.
No wonder Blaney is ready to get to Pocono.
"We’ve come a long way in the past month and a half," he said. "It wasn’t that long ago we were in a pretty precarious position as far as the points go, and it’s still a pretty close race for 25th on back, but we always knew that if we could get to the track and perform the way we knew we were capable of, then the points situation would take care of itself as long as we stayed out of trouble along the way.
"I’m really proud of this Bill Davis Racing team. We’ve done a ton of testing lately, and it’s all starting to pay off. This whole racing things has started to be fun again for everyone on this Caterpillar Racing team, and we’re looking forward to getting to the track this weekend.”
Though Blaney's Pocono resume is fairly modest - he has two top-10 and three top-15 finishes in 16 starts at the Pennsylvania track - he's optimistic that his run of good fortune can continue. He was strong in a recent test at the 2.5-mile triangular-shaped track.
“Our Pocono test went well, so we’ll just head back that way this week and try to do the same things we’ve been working on for the past couple of weeks to get another good finish," Blaney said.
