| | Jeff Gluck / SceneDaily.com Sterling Marlin will sub for Dario Franchitti in Chip Ganassi Racing's No. 40 car in next weekend's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Darlington, Marlin said Friday.
Marlin may also run the May 25 Coca-Cola 600, depending on how fast Franchitti heals from the fractured ankle he sustained during last week's Nationwide Series race at Talladega.
"I'm going to run Darlington for them," he said. "Charlotte is kind of up in the air, the [Coca-Cola] 600, so we'll see how Dario is doing. It just depends on how his foot is healed up and how he's feeling."
Marlin said he will also test the No. 40 car at Charlotte on Monday and Tuesday.
The Darlington race will reunite Marlin with his former team. Marlin drove the Coors Light-sponsored car for Felix Sabates and later Ganassi from 1998 to 2005 before being replaced by David Stremme prior to the 2006 season.
Marlin then signed with Ginn Racing, but the company folded, and he lost his ride midway through last year.
Marlin, a 50-year-old Tennessee native with 10 Cup victories in his career, has made just one start this season, at Talladega last week
