| | SceneDaily Staff Roush Fenway Racing's David Ragan is looking to gain ground once more and challenge for a berth in the Chase For The NASCAR Sprint Cup.
Off to a strong start to the season, Ragan is only 47 points outside the top 12 and a spot in the championship-determining field. He's heading to New Hampshire Motor Speedway carrying a special paint scheme honoring the Red Sox on his car and with his focus on gaining ground and climbing from his 14th position in the standings.
He says this weekend's Lenox Industrial Tools 300 at the 1-mile flat track is a good place to do that. Ragan finished 15th in this race a year ago and was 19th in the fall. Those are his only two Cup appearances at the track, though he has also raced in the Busch and Craftsman Truck series there.
"We did pretty well last year, but I’ve been driving smarter and qualifying better this year so we should be pretty good," Ragan said.
Crew chief Jimmy Fennig says that it's nice to be heading to a track where his 22-year-old driver is comfortable.
"David did well last year at New Hampshire and should do even better this year," he said. "He’s been running and qualifying much more consistently so we should have another top-10 finish.”
