| | Lee Montgomery / SceneDaily.com Elliott Sadler believes his Gillett Evernham Motorsports Dodge can race into the NASCAR Sprint All-Race on Saturday night. He got a jump on the competition Friday, winning the pole for the Sprint Showdown.
The top two finishers in the 40-lap Showdown advance to the all-star race. Sadler turned a lap of 185.014 mph around Lowe’s Motor Speedway’s 1.5-mile oval, edging Brian Vickers by 0.036 seconds.
Vickers had a fast lap of 184.786 mph to start his Red Bull Racing Toyota from the outside of the front row. David Ragan (Roush Fenway Racing) will start third, with Vickers’ teammate, AJ Allmendinger, starting fourth. Robby Gordon will start his Robby Gordon Motorsports Ford in fifth.
The rest of the top 10 are Dave Blaney (Bill Davis Racing), Joe Nemechek (Furniture Row Racing), Sam Hornish Jr. (Penske Racing), Scott Riggs (Haas CNC Racing) and Travis Kvapil (Yates Racing).
Patrick Carpentier spun off Turn 4 on his qualifying lap but didn’t hit the wall. His Gillett Evernham Motorsports Dodge starts 25th.
Kenny Wallace crashed his Front Row Motorsports Chevrolet, resulting in a lengthy delay before qualifying could restart.
The Sprint Showdown is slated for 7:30 p.m. EDT on Saturday.
