| | By Bob Pockrass / SceneDaily.com DAYTONA BEACH, FL -- Martin Truex Jr. is in a contract year, and while some preliminary discussions have been held concerning an extension, he insisted Feb. 7 that he wasn't focused on that right now.
Truex has spent the previous four years as part of Dale Earnhardt Inc., the first two in the Busch (now Nationwide) Series with Chance 2 Motorsports (co-owned by DEI and Dale Earnhardt Jr.) and the other two in Cup.
After finishing 19th in points as a rookie in 2006 following a pair of Busch Series titles, Truex won his first race and made the Chase last season, finishing 11th overall.
"We've talked about it a little bit and that's as far as it went," Truex said. "We need to go out here and win races and concentrate on racing. We'll worry about that stuff later on."
Truex is one of several drivers - including Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle and Ryan Newman - whose contracts end in 2008.
