| | | | | | GOOD PERFORMANCE | Brian Vickers, Team Red Bull continue the upward surge | |
| | By Larry McReynolds / FOXSports.com I will be honest with you. I think we had better racing than we anticipated this past weekend at Michigan International Speedway.
Sure, there are still some rumblings about this car. But what I saw was that if you have a good-driving race car, then you can pass. To me, the prime example of that was Brian Vickers, who started 18th and within 30 laps was leading the race.
This new car continues to show more and more potential. We had a lot of good side-by-side racing. I walked away pleased with the race. For whatever reason, our races are coming down to the "sit on the edge of your seat" type endings. Sometimes it comes down to two guys battling side-by-side for the win, or sometimes it's one guy leading who doesn't know if he can make it on fuel. What's good right now is that you better not walk away until it's over, because you just don't know how it's going to end.
That to me is very pleasing.
But there's still part of me that believes this car still needs some help. I also think some teams are adapting and following the strategy of "We've got what we've got here, like it or not." They are buckling down and focusing on what they have and doing pretty good with it. Tony Stewart continues to be the more vocal driver about this car, but you know what? It is what it is.
