| | | | | | Fantasy picks for the 3M Performance 400 at Michigan International Speedway.
Reid Spencer, Bill Marx and Roger Kuznia of the Sporting News are matching wits in the Pit box in 2008. The rules are different this year.
They can pick a driver only once during the season. But for good measure, each also will pick his favorite to win the race.
REID'S PICK: Sam Hornish Jr. I'm out on a thin limb here, but Hornish ran much better at Michigan in June than his 22nd-place finish might lead you to believe. Hornish has led two laps in the Cup series this season -- both in the first Michigan race.
Who Reid really thinks will win: Jimmie Johnson. I was going to go with Carl Edwards, but Bill picked him first. In order to regain the lead in the real picks, I need to go in a different direction.
ROGER'S PICK: Elliott Sadler. I've taken notice of his recent strength and hope that he has at least one more good finish left in him. He did finish ninth here in June, so the stage is set for another good run.
Who Roger really thinks will win: Dale Earnhardt Jr. Repeat!
BILL'S PICK: Carl Edwards. He is the only Roush Fenway driver I haven't used, and I am not going to wait until the Chase to use him. Edwards finished 16th for Reid at Bristol, and this is one of those races where I need a big finish from a big gun to make up ground I gave away early in the season.
Who Bill really thinks will win: I'll flip out if Edwards doesn't win.
LAST WEEK:
Big move by Roger, who shaved almost 100 points off Reid's lead when Tony Stewart finished second and Robby Gordon finished 27th for Reid. Bill nibbled into Reid’s lead with a 13th-place from Ron Fellows. In the real picks, Bill cleaned up and moved back into first when Kyle Busch won and Reid and Roger were saddled with a 29th-place finish by Jeff Gordon.
POINTS STANDINGS
One and done: Reid, 2,766; Roger, 2,580; Bill, 2,485.
Real picks: Bill, 3,259; Reid, 3,215; Roger, 2,966.
