| | | | | | Fantasy picks for the LifeLock.com 400 at Chicagoland Speedway.
Reid Spencer, Bill Marx and Roger Kuznia of the Sporting News are matching wits in the Pit box in 2008. The rules are different this year.
They can pick a driver only once during the season. But for good measure, each also will pick his favorite to win the race.
REID'S PICK: Kevin Harvick. The driver of the No. 29 Richard Childress Racing Chevy won the first two Cup races at Chicagoland, in 2001 and 2002, and in seven starts at the 1.5-mile track, he has four top-fives and a 10th-place finish to his credit. I realize that this is the first race at Chicagoland with NASCAR's new racecar -- and the first race at night -- so old notes go out the window. But it's time for Harvick to stop a slide of eight straight Cup races without a top 10.
Who Reid really thinks will win: Matt Kenseth. Last year's Chicagoland runner-up has only one finish worse than 14th at the intermediate track in Joliet. How jake is that?
ROGER'S PICK: Matt Kenseth. Even more reason to like Kenseth on Saturday is that he's been red hot of late, with seven top-10 finishes in the last eight races. Kenseth also has led more laps (289) than anyone in the last three Chicagoland races.
Who Roger really thinks will win: Jimmie Johnson. Five finishes of no worse than sixth in six Chicagoland races. Jimmie has always been good under the lights, so the evening start won't faze him.
BILL'S PICK: Ryan Newman. Newman has had success at Chicagoland before, so why not? I have to slot in Newman somewhere, and Chicagoland is as good a place as any.
Who Bill really thinks will win: Do I bet against Kyle Busch? Nope. I'd like to see one of the Busches win to give the Busch brothers four wins in a row. That would be cool.
LAST WEEK:The carnage typical of restrictor plate races really hurt the boys last week at Daytona. Bill and Reid both went with Travis Kvapil, who finished 31st, and Roger's selection of Casey Mears finished 34th. Ouch! In the real picks, Bill extended his lead over Reid when his pick of Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished eighth to Reid's pick of Tony Stewart (20th). Denny Hamlin finished 26th for Roger, who falls even further behind Bill.
POINTS STANDINGS
One and done: Reid, 2,343; Roger, 2,138; Bill, 2,039.
Real picks: Bill, 2,681; Reid, 2,548; Roger 2,436.
