In 2008, in an effort to celebrate the legacy of Dale Earnhardt among his millions of fans and introduce the man known as 'The Intimidator' to millions of new NASCAR fans, Motorsports Authentics is launching a two year program pairing NASCAR’s most famous driver with other rugged enduring legends from the entertainment world. By featuring singers, songwriters, actors and other icons on the hood of Earnhardt’s famous No. 3 Goodwrench Chevrolet, NASCAR’s fans old and new can remember and learn respectively what the 'Man in Black' was all about. In addition to a personal connection, Dale also shares iconic characteristics with the legends that will be featured on the cars throughout this series.
The first car in this series, 'The Man in Black', will feature one of Earnhardt’s heroes, Johnny Cash. A Grammy Award winning American country singer/songwriter, Cash is widely considered to be one of the most influential American musical legends of the 20th century. Cash, known for his deep, distinctive voice, his intimidating demeanor and his dark clothing, has drawn a lot of comparisons to Earnhardt. Nicknamed 'The Man in Black,' Cash was always known, and is remembered today, as a rugged, tough, no nonsense icon...very similar to how Earnhardt’s millions of fans remember the 7 time Cup Series champion.
